When selecting the "Text Options" button while reading a book, you are brought to a page for adjusting several settings, but the page can be confusing. Across the top of the screen are buttons for "Size," "Theme," "Line Spacing," "Margins," "Justification," and "Lock Rotation." Visually, the settings choices corresponding to each of those buttons also appear on the screen. However, with VoiceOver, you have to first activate one of the buttons to access its corresponding settings, and you can then swipe to the right to get to those settings. It can be confusing if you touch other areas of the screen instead of immediately swiping to the right because you may encounter settings that are not related to the button you have chosen. It is then also difficult to get back to your chosen settings because you have to explore by touch to find them instead of swiping back to them.
For those of you who are students looking for a platform to read your textbooks, the bad news is that the NOOK app does not yet support textbooks at all, regardless of whether you are using VoiceOver or not. If the NOOK app does eventually support textbooks, it will be interesting to see if all the elements of a complicated textbook will be designed to be compatible with VoiceOver.
Although VoiceOver does say the word "image" to indicate that you have encountered a photo or graphical image while reading, none of the books tested include any descriptive tags for their images. Barnes & Noble also sells what is called "Page Perfect" books with a layout that is designed to mirror the print book, including all images. However, although VoiceOver did read the text in the "Page Perfect" books tested, it ignored the images completely.
As for footnotes, they cannot be accessed while reading continuously, but they can be accessed by touching them at the bottom of the page. That sounds easy, but it can be difficult to find the footnote icon on the screen.
Although Barnes & Noble definitely has some work to do to improve accessibility and usability, the NOOK app is certainly another effective tool we can use for reading books on our iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. We would like to see access to textbooks as well as access to photos and other images with future versions, and we would like to see improvement to the accessibility of the B&N Bookstore app. Of course, we would also like Barnes & Noble to begin to address accessibility on its NOOK tablet device.

Nowadays eBooks are inevitably becoming more and more popular due to their accessibility and portability. Just a single device, be it your favorite iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, can comprise all the books you want to read. But you might face some problems, for example:

On your PC, open a new Explorer window and navigate to the location where you have your ePUB books. Select all the ePUB books you wish to transfer to the iPad, then drag and drop them to the middle of CopyTrans Filey window. Transferring PDF files to iPad or iPhone is done in much the same way as adding ePUB books. First, ensure that you have a PDF reader app on your iPad. Free examples include Adobe Reader for iOS, Marvin, or Bluefire.

Create a free account and plug in your book preferences and reading habits to get started on BookBub. This website is packed with books. Many are free to download, and some are on sale for prices as low as 99 cents. Browse curated genres, follower recommendations, lists or search "free."
When you enter your digital reading preferences, make sure to tap which device you want to read e-books on -- Kindle, Apple Books, Nook, Kobo or Google Play. BookBub will filter available content based on your gadget.
The Goodreads app is a personal favorite of mine. It's a great site to organize your books, see what your favorite authors are reading and find new reads. If you're on the hunt for free e-books, Goodreads can help too.
The Goodreads community creates lists for almost any book need you could have. Finding free books isn't any different. You'll find curated lists of free e-books from indie and self-published authors, public domain classics, audiobooks from Librivox, books for kids, previews, samples and more.
IPG has invested in Adobe Content Server as a digital rights management (DRM) solution. Adobe e-book DRM has become an industry standard, offering file encryption and protection to EPUB and PDF files and making it possible for IPG to securely distribute protected titles directly through www.ipgbook.com. Before actually plunking down that much money, I suggest trying reading Project Gutenberg and other eBooks on the laptops, notebooks, netbooks, cellphones or PDAs already in your collection of devices. I have known many people who have read very lengthy works on their cellphone, PDA or whatever while standing in lines over a period of one or two weeks and are have thus doubled their book number per year without taking any extra time.
Created in iBooks Author and specifically designed for Apple devices, Multi-Touch books (.ibooks) provide numerous possibilities to interact with the reader through photo galleries, videos, interactive diagrams, 3D objects, quizzes, and more. Multi-Touch books are designed to create immersive and memorable experiences with textbooks, cookbooks, history books, and picture books in ways not possible in print texts.
You can use Apple products -- including the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch -- to do just about anything, including read books. These products accept books from multiple sources as long you save the books in the ePub digital format. To transfer books from Google Books, Project Gutenberg and other eReader sources to your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, you simply need an iTunes account and a USB cable.
Finally, I encourage you to ditch the content ToC and only have a metadata ToC in your e-books. Metadata ToCs will give the people reading your e-books a much superior navigation experience (except on the Kindle, where they are essentially the same as a content ToC).
The Content server allows you to read books directly in Safari itself. Inaddition, there are many apps for your iDevice that can connect to the calibreContent server. Examples include: Marvin, Mapleread and iBooks itself.
You will see a list of books in Safari, tap on any book and you will be giventhe option to either download it, or read it in the browser itself. If youchoose to download it, Safari will ask you if you want to open it with iBooks.
Many reading apps support browsing the calibre library directly via its OPDS support.In such apps you can go to the online catalog screen and add the IP address ofthe calibre server to browse and download books from your calibre librarywithin the app.
Try a clean install. That is, uninstall calibre, delete C:\Program Files\Calibre2 (or wherever you previously chose to install calibre). Then re-install calibre. Note that uninstalling does not touch your books or settings.
Apple finally gave the Books app for iPhone the attention it deserves, making the experience even better for reading e-books and listening to audiobooks on the go. You can even do more with Books in custom shortcuts you develop.
